He was married to Rosa Russo for 55 years, she preceded him in death May 8, 2009.
Andrea was born June 6, 1930 in Carini, a small town about 20 miles from Palermo, Italy. He was one of 5 siblings and lived a very simple farm life. That’s where as a teenager he got his first introduction to agriculture and gardening that later became a passion and developed his “Green Thumb” skills.
Circa 1960 work was scarce in Carini and like many others during that time, Andrea made the difficult choice to leave Italy, leaving behind his dear wife Rosa and young sons Pietro and Salvatore. Sponsored by his older sister Nina, came to America where he found construction work while learning English on the job. He proudly received a medal for taking part in the construction of the Verazzano Bridge in N.Y. Andrea worked very hard; and while providing for his family still in Italy, he also saved his money in order to buy a home here in USA so he could eventually bring over his family. And it was in 1971 that Andrea finally reunited with his family and made Valley Stream Long Island their home for the next 25+ years, up until his retirement. At which time then with his wife moved back to Italy for several years followed by another and final move back to Clearwater, Fl.
Andrea is survived by his sons Peter and Sal Mannino, his grandchildren Michael, Justin and Deanna Mannino, his great grandchild Lukas James Toscano, and his younger brother Vito Mannino.
A small private service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers and cards, the family requests donations be made to:
