Mr. Herman Clyde Rigsby 93, of Safety Harbor Fl. passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 20, 2018 at Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor. Clyde was born on March 6, 1925 as an identical twin of Homer Claude Rigsby. Clyde and Claude’s mother died at childbirth. They were born in Safety Harbor, Fl. and are one of the pioneering families of that town.
The brothers enlisted in the Navy together at 17 and served in WWII in the South Pacific and saw a lot of action. He was proud of his service and loved to talk to former veterans. Clyde was a lifetime and founding member of the Safety Harbor American Legion. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Safety Harbor since returning to Safety Harbor.
Clyde worked for Florida Power Corporation for 25 years as a power plant operator, retiring as a Chief Operator. He returned to live in the family homestead in Safety Harbor from his residence in Pikeville TN. after the unexpected passing of his wife Rose. Clyde’s daughter, Julie passed away also in 2012. Following this tragic event, his son Steven and wife Ursula relocated from Palm Bay Fl. to Safety Harbor to assist his father during his last years. He had recently transitioned to Safety Harbor Senior Living, an assisted living facility where he was very happy to live when unable to continue at his home.
Mr. Rigsby was preceded in death by his wife Rose, daughter Julie and brother Claude who is survived by wife Joanne. Clyde is survived by his son Steven Rigsby (Ursula) and daughter Sally Rigsby who resides in Tullahoma Tn. Sally has 2 daughters, Michelle Dupont (Robert) and Katie Yarborough. Julie is survived by 3 children, David Moore (Laidy), Amy Moore and Molly Hall (Andy). Clyde has 5 great-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Safety Harbor, 525 14th Ave S, Safety Harbor, FL 34695, on Saturday June 30th at 11am, viewing 1 hour earlier. A meal will be served at the church following internment at the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
