Doreen went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on May 17, 2020, shortly before her 96th Birthday. Doreen was born in Harrogate, county of Yorkshire England on July 29, 1924. She won a prestigious scholarship to attend a private prep-school in England. Soon after Doreen graduated, the Second World War started, as a teenager Doreen worked in an ammunition factory during the bombing of England by the Germans. She said that at night all lights were tuned off and you could not see your hands in front of your face, people would light a cigarette so others could see the red glow in order not to bump into each other on the street. She volunteered in hospitals with her girlfriends where they would help unload the wounded allied soldiers and spend time with them in the hospitals. She said the Germans were very close to crossing the English Channel and if they did, the girls discussed ending their lives since the Germans were known to rape the women. This did not happen, thanks be to the Lord. She spoke of rationing during the war, one dress was permitted, one pair of shoes, three ounces of meat per month per person. Doreen said the girls would trade dresses and shoes for something different to wear. After the War, she worked as a telephone operator where she met her first husband John Rapaport, they lived in Leeds England until they immigrated to the United States in 1949. Her husband John was Jewish, subsequently they changed their name to Rogers, the same name as John’s older brother Charles who was living in New York City at the time. John and Doreen moved from New York City to a small town in Florida called Lake Wales where their four boys were born during their first six years there. Doreen was an equestrian in England and also rode horses in New York City’s Central Park, in addition they raised horses in Lake Wales and enjoyed riding there. John Rogers passed away in 2005. Later in life Doreen married Harold E. Prucha, they resided together in Dunedin Florida. They were married for over 20 years and traveled the world together until Harold passed away. Harold was a brilliant engineer who worked for the government and managed a large staff of engineers testing various naval technologies. Harold has a son and a daughter. The blended families enjoyed many good years together. Doreen was active in the community, she was a member of the Dunedin Zoning Board, was president of the Palm Harbor Historic Society and she also was active in the Republican Party. Doreen wanted her life to make a positive difference in the community and with her children and love ones. Doreen was a wonderful caring mother and wife. She loved Jesus and was an active member of the North Bay Community Church in Clearwater Florida. With her expressive English accent, she enjoyed narrating the Christmas Cantata in church. She was always drawn to help and comfort people in need and those that needed a soft touch and ear to listen. Doreen’s faith in Jesus Christ was evident by the love she showed to others. She will be missed so much by her family and friends. She said for the last few years that she was ready and at peace to be with her Lord Jesus. Doreen wrote that people should not be sad about her passing but rejoice “I am going to be with my Lord in Heaven”.
