BACHTELER, Geraldine Estelle (Phelan), 96, of Oldsmar, Florida, passed on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Geraldine is survived by her loving Husband of 76 years, Charles Bachteler Sr.; her loving sons, James Bachteler and Charles Bachteler Jr. and wife, Patricia; Diane (Bachteler) (Brenner) Cruikshank; grandsons, Evan Brenner (Amy) and James Cruikshank; great-grandsons, Jackson Brenner and Samuel Brenner. Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Theresa Phelan and eight siblings. Geraldine was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Forest Hills, NY. Geraldine worked for New York Telephone, RKO Theaters, where she met her husband, Charles. Soon after their marriage, Charles Sr. enlisted for active duty in the U.S. Army during World War II and is a Normandy survivor. The Bachteler family resided in Douglaston, NY before moving to the Oldsmar area. Geraldine participated in activities at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. She loved to travel and visited Hawaii, France, Switzerland, Germany, China and Alaska, as well as many trips with her family to U.S. East Coast from Maine to Florida. Known for her beautiful smile and enlightening spirit, she will be remembered by all who loved her as a friend. Religious services for Geraldine will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020, with a viewing at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home followed by a Mass at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church and internment at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer Foundation of America.
