He was the son of the late Oscar and Cora McDonald of Cherokee, North Carolina. He graduated from North Carolina State, Raleigh, North Carolina in 1950. Prior to graduation, he had served in the U.S. Navy and again after graduation in 1951. He was married to Annie Stuart of Roxboro, North Carolina. His entire employment of thirty-five years was with Carolina Power and Light Company, Raleigh, North Carolina. After retirement, he and his wife moved to the Brookridge Retirement Home in Winston Salem, North Carolina where he was active in volunteer work in the Health Care Center. On April 26, 2000, he received the Forsyth County Senior Volunteer Award. He was a member of College Park Baptist Church in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Annie Stuart McDonald. Also , surviving are a sister, Marilyn McDonald Hipps of Whittier, North Carolina, and a number of nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 21st at 2pm at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave. Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
