Leon “Lee” Merecki, age 85, passed away surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Dolores. Cherished father of Matthew (Paula), Gregory (Lisa) and Kathleen (Robert) Plotkowski. Dzia Dzia of Jacquelyn (David) Edwards, Ellen Merecki, Anna Plotkowski and Julia Plotkowski. Lee also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by his parents, William Sr. and Catherine Merecki, his siblings, Erwin (Virginia) Merecki, Joseph Merecki, and William Jr. (Louise) Merecki.
Leon was a proud graduate and alumni (class of 51) of St. Joseph Catholic High School. He was former parishioner of Transfiguration Catholic Church and was involved in the parish council, Dad’s club, Athletic director, Boy Scout assistant scout leader, Lee was a proud supporter of Orchard Lake Schools.
He was a retiree from the Detroit Board of Education of 33 years. Former member of Galicia Caravan #77 International Order of Alhambra. Lee loved golf, sports, playing the lottery and telling jokes. Lee was known for his original poems that he would create for special occasions or holidays. Lee loved his grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments. His greatest accomplishment was his love for his wife, Dolores.
Visitation will be Monday, November 19, 2018 from 2 pm – 9 pm with a scripture service at 7 pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp., MI 48038. A funeral mass will be on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at noon at St. Paul Of Tarsus, 41300 Romeo Plank Rd., Clinton Township, MI 48038, with instate at 11:30 am until time of mass.
