Wanda Jean Huneycutt was born to Elder Virniel Joseph Lowrance, Sr. and Myrtle McDorman Lowrance on March 23, 1936 in Roaring Springs, TX in Dickens County. She married Marvin Edward Huneycutt on April 14, 1955; they would be married for 61 years until his passing in 2016. She followed him to glory on January 17, 2021.
Wanda was a rare woman. A loving mother who cherished her children, a strong wife who supported her husband, a compassionate sister who brought joy to her siblings, and a deeply devoted follower of Christ.
She brought light into every room with her radiant smile, and her sharp sense of humor would fill the air with laughter. She was clever and smart and kind, and she knew how to be there for her family in the exact ways they needed. She worked to model her life after the perfect image of Christ; she loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength. Her entire family was made all the better for that example.
Wanda was the very definition of a matriarch. She supported her family as her station grew from mother to grandmother to great-grandmother. Annual gatherings revolved around her, and she was delighted to open her home for any event. The number of memories created and shared by her family is collectively too large to count.
Perhaps the strongest memories were the singing sessions she would hold in her home. Hymnals would be passed around and shared, numbers would be called out, pitches would be set, and the family would break out in a glorious chorus of heavenly praise, with Wanda in the center of it all.
Wanda was also an amazing sister to her siblings, and the very best aunt that any niece or nephew could ask for. Family reunions were always made better by her presence.
In addition to her immediate and extended family, Wanda loved her church family fiercely. A proud member of the Primitive Baptist Church, she faithfully attended every Sunday, with current membership at Tyler PBC. She also gladly participated in the potluck after the sermon, and lifted the spirits of everyone around her during those precious afternoons of fellowship.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, and siblings Elva Freeman, Belva Baker, and V.J. "Sonny" Lowrance.
She is survived by her 4 children: Vicki Chasteen and husband Hayden, Mike Huneycutt and wife Teri, Terri Machiavello and husband David, Scott Huneycutt and wife Elayne; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 siblings Amedia Conry, Parker Lowrance and wife Birdie, Timothy Lowrance and wife Pam, Lisa Gunwall and husband Ken; brother-in-law Malcolm Baker and wife Jean.
Wanda’s family grieves her passing, but they are comforted by the fact that she is now reunited with her husband in glorious perfection, singing and rejoicing together with their Savior in paradise. It was a day she had been joyfully anticipating.
