Isaiah 40: 31 (New King James Version):
"But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint."
That was my father's life verse. Abner Gene Smith. Born May 23, 1928 to Charles and Nellie Smith with two brothers and a baby sister. Attended Russell High School and served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps during peace time, a "Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech," married the love of his life, Martha Jean Adams, and fathered two very proud children. Daddy was always my hero. The best man I ever knew. Loved my mom, golf and my brother and me passionately! He loved his friends dearly - friends of all walks of life and political views. He was such a powerful yet gentle southern man of strong ethics and morality, honor and integrity, protector, provider, generous and great love. He was a devoted son, doting husband, and terrific father. He was such a wonderful example of living his faith that it was easy to love my Heavenly Father. And now he is in his Savior's presence finally reunited with my mother. No more pain, no more sorrow. I miss you terribly, Daddy, and am so sad I couldn't be with you when you left this world, but I know where you are, and know I will see you again. You are forever in my heart and in my thoughts. Rest in Peace. Til we meet again... You have mounted up like the magnificent eagles you loved, running free without growing weary and walking where angels trod without fainting. I love you, my hero!
