Sylvia was born on May 2, 1952, in Sweetwater to Junior and Shirley Dorn. A Coahoma HS graduate in
1970, Sylvia married Kenny Clanton in 1972. They moved to Mitchell County in 1976 and raised their
children, Zachary and Elizabeth. Sylvia and Kenny built their lives around family and faith. She was an
active member in their family’s long‐time, dearly loved church, the Dorn Methodist Church. She loved
her family and community, and always had ahand stretched out to help those in need. Sylvia diligently
served Mitchell County for 24 years and 9 months, the last 9 years of those as Tax Assessor‐Collector. In
addition, she served in multiple positions for the Lions and the Kiwanians Clubs, and enjoyed the
contacts and many opportunities to bless others in her community.
Sylvia is survived by her husband Kenny, daughter Elizabeth, son Zachary and his daughters Zen and
Zephyr; their mother Jennifer and husband Damon; her mother, Shirley; sisters Susan and Shellie and
their families, along with many dear family members and friends who have blessed Sylvia bountifully
during her battle with glioblastoma.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her father.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for Dorn Cemetery, where Sylvia will be laid to rest. Dorn
Cemetery, PO Box 1027, Colorado City, TX79512.
A private memorial to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be held with immediate family. Her family
tremendously appreciates each kindness performed in her behalf as well as each precious heartfelt
prayer. We take comfort knowing that she is at peace, and we will one day be reunited. Again, we
want to thank you for your love, care, and prayers for us during Sylvia’s illness.
