Lawrence A. McIntyre was born March 15, 1930 in Chester, PA to Lawrence F. McIntyre and Anna McIntyre. He passed on May 5, 2021 at his home in Colorado Springs, CO. He is survived by his wife Joan who he married on April 15, 1950 on Governors Island in New York, his daughter Patricia L. Bates (Mike) of Wiggins, CO and four granddaughters - Jennifer Finn of Colorado Springs, CO; Stephanie Bates of Wiggins, CO; Melanie Torres (Miguel) of Colorado Springs, CO; and Hilary Kyte (Jeremy) of Wiggins, CO. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren - Blake and Nikolaus Finn; Kaleigh Bates; Vanessa and Gabriel Torres; Kirsten, Tristan, Josilyn, and Emersyn Kyte, his brother Douglas McIntyre (Kass) of Sewell, NJ, and his nephew Kevin McIntyre and great-niece Allie McIntyre of Cetronia, PA.
Lawrence graduated from Chester High School in Chester, PA in 1947 and joined the Army that same year. He served in the Army for 28 years, retiring on August 31, 1975. He served in Japan, Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and numerous places in the Unites States and was part of the Air Defense Artillery. He received the Bronze Star, Distinguished Service Cross, Legion of Merit, Army Occupation Medal (Germany & Japan), Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and numerous other awards.
After retiring from the Army, Lawrence worked for Higginbotham/Briggs & Associates until retiring on March 26, 1995. He loved to ski with his wife Joan here in Colorado and in Europe, skiing well into their 80’s. He was an avid coin and stamp collector and loved reading. He was known as Mac to most, Grandpa Snoopy to his granddaughters and great-grandchildren, and Dad to his daughter.
The funeral will be held on May 20, 2021 at Swan-Law 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO. The viewing will commence at 1:00PM, with the service starting at 2:00PM followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
