On Friday, March 15, 2024, Sharon Bien, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 75. Sharon was born in McCamey, Texas on June 11, 1948, to Fletcher “Mack” and Doice (Harris) Slaton. She was married for 54 years to Ronnie Bien and together, they raised two sons, Michael and John, and one daughter, Melody.
Sharon was most known for the care she gave to others throughout her life. One of her proudest accomplishments was graduating from nursing school and caring for countless patients over her thirty-six year career as a Registered Nurse. From working on hospital wards to running a nursing home to providing people much needed care in their homes, the lives she touched are innumerable.
But even more than attending to the physical needs of her patients, she cared for the needs of their hearts and minds. There is no telling how many times she went above and beyond to take meals, buy groceries, make advocating phone calls, help sort out family issues, or even help a patient get a certain book they wanted to read. She knew that “health” encompassed many things. And outside of her career, she was the same giving person. She spent countless hours serving in her church in all capacities including committee, teaching Sunday School classes, helping with youth group activities, and helping orchestrate SO many potlucks.
And there was never a child who befriended her own children who did not feel like they had a second home. Sharon worked and sacrificed her entire life for others. She sometimes worked three different jobs while putting her kids through college so they wouldn’t end up debt-ridden while seeking an education. She worked full-time and then came home to be a full-time mom with supper on the stove every night and homework help just a question away. Never was there a recital or Christmas program she wasn’t found beaming in the audience despite having just skidded into the parking lot after a more-than-full day’s work.
Though she didn’t have much time for herself, she did enjoy reading, cooking, gardening, watching endless political debates, and of course, making sure Ronnie always had a full belly and happy heart.
Sharon’s faith in the Lord was paramount throughout her entire life. She didn’t just speak the word of God … rather she lived it to the fullest example in how she lived, spoke, behaved, and treated others. It was this faith that got her through some tough challenges in her life. She always knew that “God works all things together for good for those who love Him.” And that was her rock.
A memorial service will be held for Sharon on Saturday, March 23rd at 11am at Calvary Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, CO. Anyone who would like to attend is more than welcome. In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe has been set up to help cover final expenses: www.tinyurl.com/SharonBien
