William Maxwell Jr. (Wild Bill), 82 of Meriden, West Virginia, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012. Bill was doing what he loved most, hunting, when the night before the season ended, a tragic accident involving carbon monoxide took his life.

Bill is survived by his wife Yamna of 57+ years, 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, 3 sisters and 1 grandson.

Bill served in the United States Air Force for 28 years and was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War. After retiring as a Senior Master Sargent, he entered the job of his dreams with the United States Forestry Department of Agriculture.

After retirement he spent his time side by side with his loving wife as they gardened, fished, and sat on the porch and remembered the good ol' days. The only time he left her side was his yearly hunting trip.

Bill was a friend and servant to all. His humor and his kindness made a lasting impression on everyone he met. From the Synagogue, to the hospital, and the luncheons he regularly attended, he created laughter and, will be sorely missed.

Memorial services for Bill will be held at Swan Law on Thursday, December 13th at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. There will be a reception following the graveside service at Temple Shalom, 1523 E. Monument.

I will miss you until the day I get to see you again. I will live my life the best way I know how to honor your memory. I will always remember you full of life and love and your heart of gold. I remember when I came down for a weekend and we just sat on the porch drinking coffee eating a banana and watching the birds and squirrels in your backyard. I will cherish that moment because it was a beautiful day we had together. I love you.

Dear Mrs. Maxwell and family. I attended the service and graveside rights today. I learned much more about Bill than I knew while he was working. I was the Pikes Peak District Ranger from 1994-2005 and am now retired. Even though Bill and I did not interact frequently I still knew from all of those that he worked with directly what a fine worker and role model he was to all employees. Bill was the kind of person you want working for you, he was honest, trustworthy, hard working and always on time. There was never a complaint or job to tough to handle. From what I saw and heard today he was greatly respected and admired. I too share your loss and will keep you and your family in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I will always treasure the positive fun Bill had working in the Forest no matter how tough the job was. I can say everything I ever needed to know about fencing I learned from Bill. Joe and I will miss seeing him in the barber shop on Peterson. It has truly been a blessing to have known and worked with such a great man. Keeping you in our thoughts and prays.

Several times a day I try to make it a point to check my father's obituary guest book. I have been so touched by the postings I have read and the various pictures people have shared. There have been times I have laughed and times I have been so touched that I have cried. I am so grateful for those of you who have taken time out of your busy lives to touch the heart of my family. Thank you all and may God bless you in all that you do.
