Biography

Choon-Seng Lip was born on February 5, 1927 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. He lost his father at a tender age of 5 and was raised by his mother. Due to financial circumstances, he was only able to pursue his education up to the elementary level. An only child, he was self-motivated and self-taught himself many different things while growing up in Malaysia. His interest in life led him to photography and at the age of 16, he decided to make it his life work. He invested in a camera, lenses, a dark room, and many other necessary tools needed to professionally take and develop photos. Eventually he met the love of his life, Foo-Wah Tang, and tied the knot on September 1, 1956.

His journey with his wife took him from, Alor Star, Ipoh, Penang, and eventually California. Their greatest accomplishments came in the form of the five children born to them and the home they built around them. Choon-Seng and his wife bore four daughters, Sherene, Shirley, Stacey, and Sharon; the middle child is Desmond, their only son. His love for photography and the need to care and provide for his family motivated Choon-Seng further pursue his love for photography. In 1963, he opened his own photography studio, and for 34 plus years, he earned enough to provide for his family.

Choon-Seng put an emphasis on his children's education and always encouraged them to soar to the highest level so that his children can become successful and lead a meaningful life. He also provided extracurricular activities for his children which include private music lessons as well as private Chinese classes as his children were not educated in Chinese. He also believed that his children should attend church as they can be surrounded by good people and to avoid mingling with the wrong crowd. This would eventually, after many years, lead him to the Adventist church. On October 7, 1989, Choon-Seng was baptized. He became a very active member of the church. When he retired from his photography business, he dedicated his life to serving the Lord and involved himself in many church activities and programs.

Eventually, three of his children, Shirley, Stacey, and Sharon, migrated to the United States while Sherene and Desmond remain in Malaysia. In his advanced age, he and his wife moved to Redlands, California on March 2, 2016 where he lived off the rest of his years. On Thursday April 12, 2018, Choon-Seng, age 91, took his final breath. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, his five children and their spouses, and eight grandchildren.

Memorial service for Choon-Seng was held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Montecito Valley View Chapel, 3520 E. Washington St., Colton, California 92324. He was cremated on the same day at a different location in Riverside, California and the burial of the urn was finally buried on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Whispering Pines Cremation Garden at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton, California.
