Empezó a trabajar manejando autobuses urbanos.

Claudio was the first son of J. Merced Alvarez and Maria Calvillo. He was the eldest of eleven children: three men and eight women. They lived in the state of Michoacán, Mexico. As a child his mother would send him to sell bread to ranches. From a young age he was taught to work in the fields and when he started going to school, he was made fun of for being poor. When he started going to junior high, he would get up at early hours of the morning to walk to school. At time he would take the bus. His wish was to have a bicycle so that he could attend school because it was far from his home. One day when he returned from school his uncles who lived in the city of Colima gave him his own bicycle which made him very happy. He wanted to continue learning and going to school but he couldn’t because he was very poor, and nobody supported him. He only went up to 9th grade. Then he got job at a mini grocery store where he started as an assistant selling merchandise to ranches. In that job he wanted to learn how to drive the delivery truck, but his coworker never taught him. All he wanted was to learn and eventually he did by simply watching his coworker. His boss allowed him to drive the delivery truck and got himself another assistant. After several years he went to Manzanillo, Colima to work for a company where cement, brick and cobblestone blocks where made. Then his employer had him driving a "Dina" truck to transport the material they would deliver to hotels. Later he left that job to begin working as a policeman at the port of Manzanillo. But after three months he resigned because they were asking him to do things that went against his moral and ethical values. He then went on to driving city buses. And when he went to the town of Las Juntas in Colima, a municipality of Manzanillo he met Maria Victoria Montes.
A year after they met, they became boyfriend and girlfriend. Their courtship was very difficult and full of obstacles. They would have to secretly see each other because Maria Victoria's father did not accept her having a relationship with Claudio for being poor. When there was the opportunity, they would see each other to briefly chat. It was a courtship of sad memories and due to a misunderstanding one day he left and came to the U.S. to the state of Texas without giving any notice to Maria Victoria. Three months later he wrote her a letter asking for forgiveness and to let her know where he was at. Through letters they continued their relationship for four and a half years. In 1984 he went back to Mexico to ask for Maria Victoria’s hand in marriage. And that was also a tough challenge. He always respected her and wanted to do everything the right way. Claudio and Victoria were then married on November 22, 1984 in the city of Tecomán, Colima. Within three days, they came to live to Ontario, California and have lived there ever since. They had three beautiful children, a girl and two boys to whom they named Claudia, Enrique and Emmanuel. He was a family man, always protecting them and striving to provide everything they needed. He always gave advice and gave the best of himself as a dad, friend and husband.
From 1980 to the present (2021) he was a member of church Our Lady Guadalupe in Ontario, CA. He participated in the youth group, then became a Lector (i.e., Reader of God’s Word). In the 90s, he served as a security guard at the church watching over the vehicles of those who attended the services. He also became a Night Worshipper for the Adoration Group and at one point belonged to the finance committee. He attended Bible studies and was a Catechist. He was part of the Hospitality Ministry and was also an Usher. He tended to participate in different ministries at the same time. He always served anyone who needed his help inside and outside of church.
He always liked to share God's Word with everyone. He said he didn't care if people got annoyed, but he did with so much joy and love. He always taught his family to Love God above all things. He gave unconditional love. He strived to have a united family. With his actions he taught to love your neighbor, to forgive, to be generous, to be respectful, to be patient, and have humility. He never held grudges which was one of the gifts God gave him. If someone did him any wrong, he would forgive and pray for them. He had a very close relationship with God and was a prayerful man. He always read the Bible and Psalm 91 was his favorite. He really enjoyed helping people.
As a young man he desired to drive semi-trucks. So, he went to school, studied and with God’s help his dream came true. In 2003 he began his career as a commercial truck driver. It was something he enjoyed very much since he had a traveler’s and adventurous heart.
On June 5th, 2021, he passed away in Kansas City, Missouri after struggling with complications from injuries caused by the accident that occurred on May 2, 2021 while on the job driving a semi. Everyone in the Neurological Intensive Care floor at Research Medical Center said he was a very strong man and fought very hard. He was very blessed and many people prayed for him. Many including the hospital staff longed for him to get out of that bed. However, God’s plan was different from ours and HE decided to take him home. Claudio Alvarez Calvillo will always live in our hearts.
