Jayne Sadie Massingill was born on February 18, 1926 in Henryetta OK, to Henry Hugh and Mahala “Ellen” (Trott) Massingill, the youngest of their four children--Gweneth, Robert, Shelby, and Jayne. While her dad worked in mining and helped friends with handiwork, her mom stayed home with the children and tended her garden of many vegetables. She was raised according to the Pentecostal faith and later, was a member of the Baptist church.
When the family moved to Boulder CO in pursuit of her dad’s work, Jayne was enrolled at Boulder High School, where she played drums and cymbals, and met a handsome young man, also a Senior, named Craverne Leetzow. Now graduated (c. 1945), Jayne and Craverne were married.
On 25 October 1945, with the war now turned to peace, Craverne enlisted in the Army. After his tour they moved to Los Angeles, where Craverne entered Watchmaking School. Soon, they relocated to Fontana where they owned Fontana Jewelers for the next 40 years. To their union, three children were born, Patricia, Michael, and Linda; Patricia Jean was born May 23, 1946 and went in the arms of an angel that same day; her little body rests at “Babyland” in Boulder. It was something which affected Jayne until the day she drew her last breath.
But, life goes on, and Jayne was a survivor. Michael was a Boy Scout and played City League baseball; Linda was a Brownie and cheerleader.
Dad was a skilled watchmaker and jeweler; and Jayne held them all, together.
Jayne did a lot of wonderful traveling with Craverne and saw some amazing places, from which she had many Beautiful Memories. Jayne belonged to several organizations, including Fontana Women's Club.
Linda said, “I always called my Mom a ‘Social Butterfly.’" Jayne loved her family and always loved the Lord and her church. She loved her glass cats, especially the ones with kittens, had a dog named “Abby,”
and cherished the beauty of butterflies. You’ll not be surprised to hear, she enjoyed the music of Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, and old church hymns, such as “The Old Rugged Cross.”
In spite of good she enjoyed in life, this beautiful lady faced many trials, also. Having lost her first born, Patricia, in childbirth, her amazing son, Michael, went home to the Lord in 2000, and then, her “Soul Mate,” Craverne, went home to the Lord in 2013. They were married 68 years. In life, Jayne was a very loving person who loved the Lord; and nobody ever had a more engaging smile.
Linda wrote, “I am Truly Blessed to call her "Mom" and Thank her everyday for the Strength and Guidance she has given me through my Life... I Love You Mom...Sissy"
