Janis Redeana Stringfield

January 22, 1952May 3, 2021

Janis Redeana Pearson Stringfield went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on May 3, 2021. She was 69 years old. Janis was admitted to the hospital on April 15, 2021 from the sudden onset of sepsis from a kidney infection, and was unable to recover. Janis was born in Tylertown, Mississippi, in 1952. The daughter of a radio engineer and music educator, she began her own journey with music at the age of four. By age 12, she had begun her lifelong ministry and career in church music, as her church’s pianist. At 17 years old, she won the national title for instrumental soloist at the Church of God Teen Talent competition, and published her original song “Because of Jesus” in 1974. She continued to play piano and organ throughout her life for countless occasions, including high school and community musical theater productions, weddings, church services and revivals with a faithful and tenacious dedication to her craft. She retired from her calling as pianist from Crossroads Baptist Church of San Antonio, Texas in 2018. In addition to music, she had a passion for history and genealogical research. In 1993, she published a reference book of her findings, Aaron Beard and Kizziah (Carter) Beard of South Mississippi. She valued education and believed in sharing opportunities with others, and fostered her own children’s friends and extended family to give them a place to call home while they finished school. During her time as a Cub Scout den mother, she learned to love camping, an activity that she enjoyed as often as possible for the remainder of her life. As an occasional thrill-seeker, she also delighted in visiting amusement parks and riding roller coasters, but still found time to curl up with many a good book. Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie May Pearson, and Ila Magdelene Pearson; sister, Jenny Rebecca Beal; and other treasured family. She is survived by her husband, Austin Stringfield; a daughter, Eve Helmig; sons, Steven Stringfield and Joe Johnson; her children’s spouses, Michael Winn, Angela Stringfield, and Johannah Murphy; five grandchildren, Charlee Helmig, Bradyn Johnson, Lily Anne Johnson, Gemma Stringfield, and Eden Koester-Stringfield. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and aunt Bethel Scarborough, as well as friends old and new. Family will receive friends on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia, MS. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Morgantown Church of God with Reverend Cory Odom presiding. Interment will follow at Morgantown Cemetery.
