Waymen S. Broome

Waymen S. Broome, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at the age of 80. He was born in Marion County to Lester and Ella Vee Broome. He was a fabricator and worked 15 years for Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and then with Beloit Mill Pro Services in Hattiesburg where he retired. Waymen was a talented woodworker who could build anything and many people have enjoyed the furniture that he has built. He also found great enjoyment in gardening and had the ability to grow vegetables when no one else could. He served his God and his community through his membership at Good Hope Baptist Church. Waymen will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patsy Marie Broome. Waymen is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Bennett Broome; two daughters, Kathy Broome Harper and her husband, Gary, and Patsy Louise Zettle and her husband, Randall; a son, Allen Broome; a sister, Guynell Heard and her husband, Wayne; six grandchildren, Shonna Broome, Anthony Broome, Philip McGrew, Jennifer Ladner, Adam Zettle, and Autumn Zettle; eleven great-grandchildren, Jaylynn Herrington, Layla Herrington, Bryce Ward, Adilynn Broome, Alayna Broome, Tyler Ladner, Brett Ladner, Brady Ladner, Sydney Thornton, Culley Hutchins, and Harper Rose Hutchins; and a niece, Shannon Smith. Reverend Justin Cameron will officiate a funeral service for Waymen at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the graveside in the Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Anthony Broome, Philip McGrew, Adam Zettle, Randall Zettle, Gary Harper, and Brian Ladner will assist as pallbearers.
