Funeral Services were held Thursday Oct. 25, 2012 at 10:30am at Improve Baptist Church for Mr. Wendell C. McDowell age 86 of Columbia,MS who died Oct. 22, 2012 in Columbia,MS. Internment was in the Improve Cemetery, Rev. Darel Daniels officated. Visitation was Wednesday Oct. 24, 2012 from 5-9 pm @ the funeral home & Thursday Oct. 25, 2012 from 9am-10:30am @ the church. A native of Marion County,MS he was retired school Teacher & Coach, and a member of Improve Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his Parents- R P & May McDowell Sister- Addie Mae Collins & Bro.- Ira Pierce McDowell Survivors include: wife- Mattie McDowell of Columbia, 1 Dau. Virginia Belton oc Columbia & Son- Reuben McDowell of Columbia,MS 1 Bro.- Edwin McDowell of Collins,MS 5 Grandchildren 1 Great Grandchild Colonial Funeral Home 323 Second St. Columbia,MS was in Charge of Arrangements

Hello, I was a student of Mr. McDowell's at Columbia High School. During the time of integration he was a very sweet, kind and honest man. He made the transition for us a very easy transition. I always remember that in the biology classes he was real patient with those of us that didn't like the dissecting part of class. I will keep your family lifted in prayer because I know that there is a void there with his passing. I am a member of the Class of 1973.
