COLUMBIA - Lois Mae Sloan, 95, of Columbia passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2018. Born March, 13, 1922, in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Burnell and Arline Sloan. Miss Sloan graduated from Dentsville School in 1942.
She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, attending the Gleaners Sunday School Class, and was also a lifetime member of the St. Paul’s Missionary Group. Miss Sloan was very loving and kind, always putting others before herself. She loved her family, and frequently visited her sisters’ homes to help, especially when her nieces and nephews were infants.
Miss Sloan is survived by her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters: Betty Keels, Janet Albers, Carolyn Criss, and Mary Cooper.
The service will be held for Miss Sloan at 2:30 p.m., Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church conducted by The Rev. Dr. Tony Metze. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, March 12th from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the St. Paul’s Fellowship Hall.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1715 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or Lutheran Homes of South Carolina, 300 Ministry Drive, Irmo, SC 29063.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Rice Estate and Lutheran Hospice for the care of Miss Sloan. Elmwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service are assisting the family with arrangements.
