Marcelle Connor Crow
October 2, 1924 – July 9, 2018
Columbia- Funeral services for Marcelle C. Crow, 93, will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home.
Marcelle passed away on July 9, 2018 and was born in Orlando, Florida on October 2, 1924 to James Walling Connor, a real estate broker and Nina Elizabeth Hinson Connor. She was predeceased by a brother James Walling Connor and a sister Betty Jean Connor Dozier.
Marcelle graduated from Columbia High School in 1943. She then worked at the Columbia Army Air Base and Fort Jackson during World War II. After the war she earned an associate degree at USC in Secretarial Science. She worked as an executive secretary for various institutions (Comptroller General, Department of Education, etc.) and as a teletype supervisor for the Quarter Master Market Center during the Korean War. She enjoyed needlepoint, cross stitch, cooking and loved dancing and opera. She was an active member of the Greater Opera Guild of Columbia, and a devoted and much loved mother to four children.
She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Johnson and Karen Medberry, two sons, Stephen Ferrin Crow and David Albert Crow, five grandchildren, Melanie Alphin, Meghan Carter, Ashley Floyd, Clint Medberry, Evelyn Marcelle Crow, four great-grandchildren, Julia Alphin, Lucy Alphin, Henley Floyd, Clara Carter, Clinton Amos Medberry and two nieces Tibbie Dozier Steedly and Jean Dozier Davey.
