A native of Columbia, Gene was born December 8, 1934 the youngest of seven to Charles Eugene and Etheline Priester Teague. He served his country proudly in the Air National Guard during the Berlin Crisis in Madrid. Years later, he took his family on a month long adventure there. Gene will be remembered as being larger than life. He was an avid fisherman and he loved to share his catch. Gene always said “in life there were two things you couldn’t buy; true love and homegrown tomatoes” so he gladly shared his that grew himself. He had a lifetime career in the steel industry serving in various capacities including management at Colonial Iron, Allcraft Steel and Owen Miscellaneous Metals. Gene was a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church. Most importantly, he was a great father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Teague Midgett, granddaughter, Kelley Vaughan Madden and his siblings. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Peggy Kelley Teague; a daughter, Rebecca Teague Madden; a son, Neville “Ned” Eugene Teague, Jr. and his long-time girlfriend, Ellen Matthews; two grandchildren, Arthur Allen Madden, III, and William Buckley “Buck” Brice and his fiancé, Talia Crackel.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to their family and friends that offered support and prayers through Gene’s illness.
