Shirley Magalis Milam

COLUMBIA – A memorial service for Shirley Magalis Milam will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held immediately after the service in Westminster’s Gathering Room. Shirley Milam was born in Columbia, South Carolina, and was the baby of ten children. She passed away March 28, 2018 and was the daughter of Charles Lawrence and Perle Gaston Magalis. Shirley was married to the late Robert A. Milam, Jr. of Columbia, SC. She was a graduate of Columbia High School. She worked with the Department of Education for ten years and retired from the Farm Credit Bank of Columbia after 25 years of service. Mrs. Milam was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served on the Board of Deacons. She was a member of the ladies Bible Class, the Ladies circle #2, and a member of the Go-Getters. She was a church office volunteer for many years following her retirement, as well as a vacation bible school volunteer with the children’s programs. Mrs. Milam was active in mentoring elementary school children for several years. She also loved painting and crafts. She thoroughly enjoyed planting in her garden and she kept up a good pace with her daily walks. Her true love of course, was that for her family. Surviving are daughter, Sharon K. Milam of Columbia; son, Robert “Robby” A. Milam, III and daughter-in-law Martha Moore (Marty) Milam of Irmo, SC; her grandchildren, Christiana New (Jason) of Chapin, SC, Dr. Robert “Alden” Milam (Stacey Dempsey Milam) of Charlotte, NC; her great grandchildren, Breiana Madison Hook-Milam of Chapin, SC; Corrine Elizabeth and Tate Anderson Milam of Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Milam was predeceased by one brother, Charles Lawrence Magalis and eight sisters, Madge Cooper and Maxine Magalis (twins), Pearl Minnick, Sara Price, Dorothy Ackerman, June Fanning, Allie Logan and Lillie Magalis (twins). Mrs. Milam, known by her grandchildren as “G.G.”, resided at the Presbyterian Homes of Columbia since 2007 and was very active with the many activities of that community. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Presbyterian Home of Columbia. Elmwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service are assisting the family with arrangements
