
Betty attended Central High School Jackson, MS, followed by Vanderbilt University, finishing College at Millsaps College Jackson, MS where she met her husband Bill in 1957 as he escorted her in the Millsaps Homecoming Court. Following graduation, Betty went on to teach biology at Central High School in Jackson, MS and was presented as a Debutante in Jackson MS in 1958. August 1st 1959 Betty and Bill were married, relocating together to New Orleans, LA, where she taught biology with Izidore Newman private school while Bill attended Tulane Medical School. Betty moved with three young children to Fort Worth, Texas to be near her sister and extended family, while Bill was in Vietnam from 1967-1968. Bill returned from Vietnam, and the family resided in Alexandria Virginia 1968-1969, relocating to Temple, Texas 1969-1972, then coming to Columbus GA in 1972.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. (Meredith Owens)Harvey F Garrison, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. William (Bill) L Graham. Children, Garry and Elizabeth Graham, Columbus, GA, Jeff and Ginger Bates, Lufkin, TX, John and Jennifer Graham, Tierra Verde, FL. Grandchildren, Alexis (Ali) Lake, Autumn Rae Graham, Graham Bates, Davis Bates, and Sarah Beth Bates. Siblings, Jackie Paine and her husband, Bill, Helen Garrison Ridgway and Frank Garrison.
Betty will always be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and Disciple of Christ. Her strength and faith will continue to inspire all her family members, and those sharing her faith through years participating in weekly bible study led by Margret Sue Moseley. As well as the congregations of both the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for 43 years, and attended Grace Presbyterian Church for the past year.
Many thanks are extended to all church members, extended family, friends and neighbors for their prayers, words of sympathy and comfort.
Known only to family until now, Betty's amazing faith and strength is to be shared as an inspiration to others as she lived longer than anyone ever recorded, with a malignant nasal nerve tumor which was diagnosed in 1969. Betty lived 46 years through the grace of God, research, dedication, and the unwavering perseverance of her husband Bill, supported by doctors locally, across America, and paving the way to new treatments now in use globally.
