Garnet was born in Seymour, Indiana on December 14, 1954, the daughter of George and Ethel Persinger. She was raised in Brownstown, Indiana. She met Calvin Dampier in Columbus and they married in 1973.
Garnet enjoyed camping and being with family. Her grandchildren were her entire world.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin, her daughters, Brenda Cherry and Tammy (Robert) McCormick; her son, Calvin (Natasha) Dampier; her siblings, Saundra Leathermon, George (Beth) Persinger, Tim (Teresa) Persinger, and Kim Christy; her grandchildren, Robert G.E. McCormick, Tanya (Robert) Palanton, Winston Cherry, Harlie McAlarney, Chloe Cherry, Krislynn Jones, Jazlynn West, Makaela West, and Xander Dampier; and five great-grandchildren.
Garnet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Benjamin Persinger, son-in-law, James "Tojo" Cherry, and a grandchild, Hayden Dampier.
A funeral service for Garnet will be held Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel. Burial will follow at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, May 29 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Myers-Reed Chapel is serving the Dampier family.
