Born on June 2, 1933, in Fremont, Ohio, Barb was the daughter of Harry and Adelaide (Reynolds) Bowlus. She graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1951 and married the love of her life, James Werling, on September 8, 1951. Together, Barb and Jim built a life full of love and adventure. In 1968, they bought a farm where they raised their six children, creating countless beautiful memories while cultivating a deep love for gardening, canning, and cooking.
Barb was a Fremont Memorial Hospital volunteer and a member and volunteer at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She had a passion for golf, bridge, reading, and knitting. Later in life, Barb and Jim set out on new adventures, living in Georgia, New Mexico, Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, and Mexico. Wherever they went, they made many lasting friendships, enriching their lives and the lives of those around them.
Her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment were her children: Jim (Vicki), John (Debbie), Jeff, Jody (TJ) Brudzinski, Pete (Sandy), and Joanne (Matt) Collins. She cherished her role as grandmother to 12 and was fondly known as "old Grandma" to 15 great-grandchildren and several grand dogs.
Barb was preceded in death by her son, John, her great-granddaughter, Alexa, her brother, John Bowlus, and her parents, Harry and Adelaide Bowlus.
Barb's generous heart and loving spirit will be celebrated in a private ceremony with her family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Capital City Hospice or the Cure Alzheimer's Fund.
Please share your condolences, memories, and kindness with Barb's family.
