Dan graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1958 and went to work for the Lazarus Company and then CV Perry Realtors. He then founded D.D. Frye & Co. Dan served as a medic in the Air National Guard at Lockbourne Air Force Base and was a longtime member in the Ohio Board of Realtors. He served on the German Village Historic Commission. He loved Ohio State football and most especially the “Best Damn Band in the Land”. Dan loved visiting Hawaii and telling everyone that his trip each year was the prize for being selected “D.D. Frye salesman of the year.” If you joined him on any evening at The Top, he would introduce you to the wait staff and bartenders and remind everyone that wherever he sat at the bar was designated as the “tip free zone”. Dan also loved telling jokes; to give you fair warning, he would begin every one with “Did I tell you the one about the…” Dan’s passing brings sadness. But he did what he wanted to do when he wanted to do it. He was a self-made American character who treasured his independence as well as the independence of others. His was a life of accomplishments separated by intervals of laughter. A Hawaiian themed funeral service will be held at 10am Friday, July 15, at the Schoedinger Midtown Chapel, 229 East State St. Everyone is encouraged to wear Hawaiian clothes to the service.
