Robert Webb Gerty

Robert Webb Gerty, 85, of Columbus, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Columbus. He was born March 31, 1929 in Hamden, OH to the late Timothy and Florence (Webb) Gerty. He was a graduate of Hamden High School and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a Sohio Service Station dealer for 28 years before moving on to Robertson Heating and Plumbing for another 24 years. He was a member of Karl Road Baptist Church where he served as usher, Sunday School Treasurer for the Outreach class and food pantry helper. He enjoyed gardening, grilling, and playing cards and cheering on the OSU men's basketball team as a season ticket holder for more than 40 years. He also crewed for 12 years with Central Ohio Balloon Club. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa. His grandchildren loved his grilled chicken. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by sisters Margaret Peters, Jean Willis and Kay McCathern. He is survived by Sharon (Clark) Gerty, his loving wife of 41 years, children Bob (Melinda) Gerty, Kathy (Chris) Hoover, Barbara (John) Bright, and Mike (Nicole) Gerty, grandchildren Brandon Dillinger, Tiffany (Shaun) Bastian, Donavon (Jenny) Gerty, Samantha (Alex) Chorba, Henry Thomas Bright, Abby, Audra, Ally, Austin, and Asher Gerty, great grandchildren Bailey and Riley Dillinger, Tyler Bastian, Daphne Gerty and Taban Chorba. Family will receive friends Monday, October 20, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10 AM at Karl Road Baptist Church, 5750 Karl Rd. Graveside service will follow at 3PM at Bates Cemetery, Athens, OH.
