
Sandra B. Hemmings, 78, of Groveport, OH passed away Friday, July 28, 2023 at home. She was born in Bramwell, WV to the late Frank and Beatrice Wilson. Sandra was one of the original members of AIM (American Indian Movement), former director of the Department of Medicine at Shadyside Hospital and Complemetary Pain Center, the first Director of the Heinz Endowment Foundation in Pittsburgh, PA that granted funds to build the Bidwell Center and Manchester Craftsman Guild ran by Mr. William (Bill) Strickland, and counsel of the Three Rivers American Indian Center in Pittsburgh ran by executive director Mr. Russell Simms. She was a dear friend of former Allegheny County Commissioner, Mr. Thomas J. Foerster and Civil Rights Activist, Mr. K. Leroy Irvin. San was instrumental in the repatriation of the native children who lost their lives at the Carlisle Indian School to their nations. She is survived by constant companion and loving husband, James Wagner; eldest grandson, Anthony Lamar Funderburk; great-grandsons, Maverik (KiKi) Powel and Jamal (JJ) White; sisters, Margo, Debbie, Gina, and Carmella.
