Troy was born on June 20, 1934 in Catawba County, NC to the late Hugh Hartsoe and Rachel Hartsoe Rowe.
In addition to his parents, Troy was preceded in death by son, Danny Lynn Blackburn; sisters, Nellie Propst, Mary Rose, and Alice Aldridge.
Those left to cherish is memory include his wife of 47 years, Anita Wright Hartsoe of Newton; daughter, Sandra Mecimore and husband, Tim of Hiddenite, and Doris Hildebran of Hickory; sons, Timothy H. Hartsoe of Shelby, David Blackburn and wife, Cathy of Lincolnton, Ray Blackburn of Newton, and Billy Blackburn of Gastonia. Troy is also survived by 12 grandchildren, three of which he raised as his children, Tammie McFarland of Conover, James Blackburn of Conover, and Wayne Blackburn of Morganton; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Troy is also survived by one brother, Roy Hartsoe of Conover, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Troy was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Broyhill Furniture Company in Conover in 2000 with more than 48 years of service. Troy was a wonderful and loving man who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
His son, Ray, quotes “People will never know how much we loved Pop, and how much he loved us. We were blessed beyond measure to have him call us sons and daughters. He was Pop to three generations and God knows he loved our mother wholeheartedly and unconditionally. He was and always will be my Dad.”
The Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Drum Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Christie officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.
