Jewell was a lifelong member of Mims Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir until the age of 86. She was an award-winning quilter, and the author of Trail of Memories, a biography of her mother, Addie Lou Howard.
Jewell and her husband, Tom, owned and operated Tom Kelley Tire Company in Conroe for 24 years until their retirement in 1997. Her early career found her working as a switchboard operator at Conroe Telephone Company in the 1940’s. Later, she was a secretary at Runyan Elementary School. She was always a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and homemaker. She loved traveling and taking beautiful photographs of her beloved family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas M. (Tom) Kelley; her son, Sammy Kelley; her parents, Frank and Addie Lou Howard; 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Steen and son-in-law, David Steen; her grandson, Timothy Steen and his wife, Jennifer; her granddaughter, Kelly Steen; grandsons, Paul Kelley and Steven Kelley, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a multitude of loving friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 at 2:00pm in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Stanley Mims officiating. Burial will follow in Conroe Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Richard Breihan, Jeffrey Coppinger, Larry Smith, Jason Smith, Bryan Hedges, Leland Sullivan and Dr. Peter Bigler. Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Hite.
