Carl was simply one of the finest men I have ever known. Having worked side by side with him for three years, I saw how he treated people with impartiality; he often treated working class customers better than he did those who were wealthy, and he stood against racial prejudice at a time when prejudice was tolerated by segments of society. Moreover, as a business owner, to ensure that he retained his humility, he sometimes took out the trash (literally). And in all of this, his actions spoke of his character (as opposed to them being merely words). As a friend, he treated me with incredible patience (as much as I could test anyone's patience), and he was gracious and kind. He always was quick to laugh (yet God help you if he gave you his bullet eyes). I will miss Carl terribly, and already do.
