Francis X. Hannan
June 13, 1944 – August 11, 2019
Francis Hannan, of Lindenhurst, L.I., died Sunday, August 11th, at the age of 75 years.
Frank, as he was known to those who knew and loved him best, was born in Flushing to his late parents, Martin and Elise. He was raised in College Point, Queens. At one of a few nights at the bowling alley in College Point, he met a young lady who would become his future bride, Marie Hannan, a local girl who also grew up there. They married in 1971 at St. Fidelis Church, stayed in College Point and began their own family, living next door to Marie’s parents. In 1984, Frank and Marie came to Long Island, purchasing their home In Copiague, where they raised their 2 daughters.
In his years of work in the construction industry, Frank was a sheet metal worker for Local 28. He had a love of boating and fishing. Frank and Marie also loved to travel. Some of their favorite vacations were Alaska, Hawaii, cruises to the Caribbean and Disney. They also enjoyed being snowbirds during the winters at their Florida home. He became and was, very dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Copiague, where he served many years working the Annual Feast. Frank was a longtime member of the OLA Knights of Columbus, where he was a Past Grand Knight, and a member of the 4th Degree.
Surviving is his beloved family - his wife of over 40 years, Marie; his daughters - Jean Vierling and son-in-law, Thomas and Kelly Stanger and his son-in-law, Thomas; his grandchildren - Thomas, Patrick and Danielle Vierling and Julia and Riley Stanger; and his sister, Judith Schmidt. In addition to his parents, Frank is predeceased by his brother, George and his sister, Florence.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Thursday, August 15th for visitation. During the evening hours the Catholic Wake Service and the Knights of Columbus Service will be offered at 8:00 p.m. On Friday, August 16th, the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption in Copiague. Interment will follow at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing, Queens.
