(Life story in English follows after Polish language...) =================

Gabriel Ryszard Piatek, of Copiague, L.I., passed on December 25th, at the age of 64 years. Mr. Piatek was born in Gdynia, Poland; to his late parents, Jan and Irena.

Gabriel is remembered as a truly generous and kind man, who worked very hard to help make a better life for his family, having moved to the US without his wife and young daughter in 1986. His family remarks that he was always putting others first. He made special time for children, especially his daughter, nieces, nephews and in later years, grandchildren; as he made it a point to take time to sit with them and to listen to what they had to say. Gabe had an easy disposition and if he had articulated a motto, it probably would have been that “everything works out in the end”. This enabled him to deal with numerous hardships that came his way, including the various illnesses that led up to his final moments.

At home, he loved to garden; and was known as a great cook – perfecting steaks on the grill and making his own smoked meats and sausages. Gabe was a fan of Formula 1 Racing and soccer, engaging in animated conversations regarding technical nuances and setting alarm clocks to watch races on the other side of the world in the middle of the night. He truly enjoyed politics and made sure to keep up with the news at home and abroad.

As a younger man, he found a passion in painting and created pieces that now hang in the home of his daughter and her family. In later years, he looked forward to fishing, enjoying the calm of the water and the challenge of snaring a nice sea bream or red snapper. Gabe’s wife, Barbara, also tells how he was so fond of dogs. He and the family had two – Brandi, who has passed, and Celina. Barbara relates the story of how Gabe was working a job in a home, and discovering that the family no longer wanted Brandi, ended up taking her home and converting his whole family into dog lovers.

Gabe leaves his family - surviving is his beloved wife, Barbara; his daughter, Katarzyna Amos and his son-in-law, Benjamin; his grandchildren – Fryderyk and Henryk; and his siblings – his brothers, Krzystof, Grzegorz and Fabian (known as Mariusz) and his sister, Marlena.

Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Friday, December 28th, from 3:00 – 6:00 and 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Copiague. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
