Janis (Jan) Kay Waddle, age 78, of Coppell Texas passed away January 11, 2021 from complications caused by the COVID virus. She will be greatly missed by her surviving family members; her son Jeffrey (Jeff) Daniel Waddle of New York, and daughter Jacqueline (Jackie) Mae Nelson of Coppell, TX and their respective spouses Mark Kuritzky and Philip Perez. Additionally, she had two grandchildren; Andrew Ryan Nelson and Madison Kay Nelson both of Coppell, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert M. Waddle, parents William and Kay Darling and brother William Darling.

She will be remembered for a wonderful optimistic attitude and patience in her teachings. She grew up in Deerfield, Illinois and attended college at the University of Southern Illinois where she met her husband of fifty-two years. Their journey took them to Omaha Nebraska where mom finished her Masters Degree in speech therapy. From here the family moved to Fayetteville Arkansas and finally to Oklahoma where they lived in Shawnee and Oklahoma City for a combined forty years. She was a Speech Pathologist providing her services in the Oklahoma City school system for twenty years. She also had a great love of tennis becoming a tennis umpire and was a founding member of the Shawnee Tennis Boosters which was instrumental in raising funds for the Shawnee Tennis program in which her children participated. She was always a great supporter of her children’s endeavors rarely missing a tennis match or tournament they participated, waiting countless hours in rain or shine to cheer them on regardless of the outcome. She also participated in as many of her grandchildren’s events as possible and enriched family vacations to Ruidoso, Yellowstone and Arizona. Jan became a master bridge player and was always willing to help others learn the game she so loved. Her quest for travel led her to the Putnam City Travel Club, where she participated and helped organize trips and cruises to places like Alaska, Michigan, the Caribbean, and Canada, as well as local trips within Oklahoma and the Dallas area. Upon her husband’s passing she moved to Coppell Texas and became a resident of St. Joseph’s Village where she lived until her passing.

A memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell, Texas at 3:00pm. The services will be available for viewing by visiting the Rolling Oaks Funeral Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the North Texas Food Bank and the SPCA in the name of Janis K. Waddle.
