Lora Droze of Irving, Texas passed away on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at the age of 95. Lora was born on February 25, 1923 in Decatur, Texas to Reverend A.C. Giles, a Baptist minister, and Sophia Giles, a “Rosie the Riveter” in World War II.
At age of 9, Lora and her family relocated from West Texas to Lewisville, Texas, where she graduated as the salutatorian from Lewisville High School in 1939. Following her graduation, she briefly attended North Texas State Teacher’s College. Lora worked in a variety of jobs before settling in her career in the retail furniture business until her retirement in 1978. She has lived in Irving, Texas since 1965.
Lora loved to dance and hosted senior dances at the Heritage Senior Center in Irving, Texas until she was 90 years old. She enjoyed cooking, playing games, interior decorating, and traveling, especially spending time with her sisters Laverne and Margaret on a Hawaiian cruise. Lora loved to dress up for any occasion. She treasured spending time with her family and friends.
Lora was preceded in death by her parents Reverend A.C. and Sophia Giles; her husband Walter Droze; and her sister Laverne Conway. Lora is survived by her sister Margaret Thompson of Sun City, Arizona; her daughter, Judy Melton and her husband Tom Melton of The Colony, Texas; her 4 grandchildren Lori Brewster of Lewisville, Texas, Steve Melton of Irving, Texas, Jason Melton of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and Amy Magnanti of The Colony Texas; and her 2 great grandchildren Austin Melton and Ashlyn Melton of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
The family would like to thank her friends, neighbors, and her caregivers at VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit for the love, care, dedication shown to Lora.
