It is with great sadness that we report the passing of George Richard Rozalowski on June 17 after a long and heroic battle with multiple myeloma. He credits his six-year survival to the excellent care of Dr. Soren Caffey, in Alexandria, VA with whom he became great friends during his years of careful care and treatment.
George was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the son of Polish parents who had fled the communist overtaking of Poland post WWII. After a fourteen-year wait for immigration papers, he came with his family to the United States, and settled in Miami, Florida. George graduated from Miami-Dade University with an associate degree and went on to the University of Florida where he obtained both a bachelor of science and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for 36 years in various capacities at Dupont in Wilmington, Delaware.
George was many things: an engineer, a painter, a sculptor, a pilot, a car buff, a devotee of computer technology, a financial guru and successful selector of stocks, and a pizza chef extraordinaire. He built an airplane and several computers from scratch. There literally was nothing at which he did not excel. He loved music, especially Pavarotti and Mexican folk music. In his retirement he volunteered his time and efforts in mentoring Georgetown low-income students and was truly a wonderful friend to all who knew him. While George's primary love was his Florida Gators, he became a convert and supporter of Georgetown basketball over the years.
He leaves behind his sister, Irene Klimowicz, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and his long-time significant other, Patricia McWade, from Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3601 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22304.
A graveside service for George will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 S. State Rd. 7, N. Lauderdale, FL 33068.
