Jerry was born in Alcorn County on December 12, 1935 and passed away on January 11, 2019 at his residence in Iuka. He was a retired carpenter/commercial construction worker. In 1996 Jerry transferred his membership to the First United Pentecostal Church of Iuka and remained there until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents Charnel and Hattie Shields, two brothers; Kenny and Otis, two sisters; Acton Tapp and Louise Wilbanks. And his wife of thirty four years, Mary Elois Hodum Shields. He is survived by his wife of twenty four years, Betty Sanders Shields; sons, Michael Lane Shields (Dejay) and Clayton Lee Shields; grandchildren, Cutis Shields and Matthew Shields; great-grandchildren, Braxton Shields and Abigail Shields and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews, many of whom affectionately called him "Unc”. Pallbearers will be Mark Houston, Vernon Wooten, Brian Grissom, Brandon Grisham, Blake Melton, and Cody Melton. Honorary pallbearers are Donnie Peters, James Embrey, Paul Parvin, and Buford Hopper.
