In Loving Memory of Elvia Grandados Shaeffer (Jan 2, 1941--Oct 2, 2019) Elvia G, Schaeffer is resting peacefully as her spirit passed on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at a Round Rock Texas Hospital. She was born in San Pedro Limon, Mexico. The daughter of Roman and Leopolda Grandados moved to Mexico City when she was just a child. Her father, who drove a taxi in the city, and her mother, a seamstress shared some wonderful memories. After her father’s sudden death when Elvia was only 13 years old, she became the strength and light of the family. Elvia and her mother subsequently moved to their beloved city by the gulf, the Port of Veracruz. This is where Elvia met the love of her life, Gilbert B. Schaeffer for the second time. Gilbert, a handsome American tourist in Mexico City, was immediately smitten by Elvia’s beauty and charm. Elvia moved to Veracruz soon after meeting Gilbert in Mexico City. Language barrier, and cultural differences did not discourage Gilbert from pursuing Elvia’s interest upon meeting her once again by chance in Veracruz. He even hired an interpreter for their first date. His determination paid off and despite the cultural differences, they fell for each other and magically made it work. They married and their union lasted nearly 30 years until Gilbert’s death in 1991. The couple were proud parents of four wonderful children, Evita, Juan, Alicia, and Cynthia Schaeffer. The family moved to Corpus Christi in 1976. Elvia was the family’s supporter and the backbone of all her husband’s many endeavors; from owning and managing several businesses both in Mexico and the US. Together they owned and operated several restaurants to also owning and managing several triple A baseball league teams in Veracruz. Elvia was known for her amazing cooking that she did at their famous “Sam’s International restaurant” in Corpus Christi. She supported her family by being a nurse, a house wife, a volunteer for the Salvation Army and was even a crossing guard for children for CCISD for many years. Her family and the many friends she had will always remember her as someone that inspired and reached out for happiness. Often it was heard from Elvia, “Don’t worry, Be happy”! Elvia was always, from a very early age, a hard worker, full of life, and showed an extremely and positive attitude about life, good or bad. She is adored by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous close family friends. Anyone who ever met Elvia was touched by her warmth, her smile, and a magnanimous personality. She was/is loved by many! During her many years she made a difference and her warmth touched many who came to know her. She is survived by the her three daughters, Elvia S Wolak (husband Robert Wolak) of San Antonio, Alicia Swann (husband Dale Swann) of Corpus Christi, Cynthia Ragsdale (husband Damon Ragsdale) of Georgetown, and her son Juan Roman Schaeffer of Corpus Christi. Also, by her stepdaughter, Joan Gilbert of Key Largo, FL and her stepson John Schaeffer of Key Largo, FL. Finally, by her eight grandchildren: Alejandro Salazar, Andrew C Tijerina II, Brandon Wolak, Tatum Swann, Thomas Swann, Matthew Wolak, Payton Ragsdale, and Dalton Ragsdale, and four great grandchildren: Kingsley Tijerina, Grayson Tijerina, Viggo Salazar, and Oliver Tijerina. Elvia was preceded in her eternal rest by her father Roman Granados and her mother Leopolda Macedo, and by her husband, the love of her life, Gilbert B Schaeffer.
