Oscar Rene Cavazos, 70, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away March 15, 2018. He was born in Corpus Christi on September 24, 1947 and graduated from W. B. Ray High School and Del Mar College. He was married to Viola Garcia on December 17, 1977. Oscar served in the Army during the Vietnam War from July 1967 until he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in July 1970. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert M-14, 2 Overseas Bars and a Sharpshooter M-16. Oscar worked as a machinist at Victoria Machine Works then for Bradley’s Inc. for 30 yrs. He had a passion for woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved to travel, watching his grandsons play baseball, especially watching the Diablos Baseball Team, visiting with his granddaughters and going to their activities. Oscar enjoyed visiting with his aunts and uncles and talking about the olden days.
Oscar was preceded in death by his son, Jose G. Cavazos II; his parents, Jose G. Cavazos and Leanor Trevino Cavazos and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Viola G. Cavazos; son, Oscar Rene (Christina) Cavazos, Jr., daughter, Gloria Ann (Brian) Way; granddaughters, Samantha H. Way, Emma J. Way and Breann L. Way; grandsons, Oscar Rene Cavazos, III and Isaac Andrew Cavazos; brother, Ismael Cavazos; sisters, Esmeralda Cabrera and Diana Granados; several nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2018 with Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening at Funeraria del Angel – Memorial Holly Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
