December 6, 1947February 6, 2020

Althea Pearl Griffith, 72, born December 6, 1947 to James R. and Thelma “Sis” (Freetage) Griffith peacefully passed away on February 6, 2020 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

Althea was blessed to have loving people in her life. She was the pride and joy of her devoted parents who loved her dearly. They relished the simple joys a road trip for McDonald’s coffee provided. She was also blessed by the constant care provided by the dedicated staff of Cambridge Developmental Center where they treated her as family. As one caregiver said, “There is a little less love in our world today now that Althea is gone.”

A memorial service for Althea will be held at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery.

I have only been a nurse at Cambridge developmental center for a short while but Althea’s memory will stick with me for a lifetime. She always had a smile on her face and always thanked me for the care I provided. Prayers for peace to her family and all her “family” at CADC.

I was one of the caregivers that took care of our Althea pereal. I always remember her saying will you do me a favor! I said anything for you hunny , she would then say I'm thirsty can I have some coffee. I would just have to smile and laugh then go retrieve her request just to see her smile and be happy. Even when it came down to looking for her a new magazine and had to make sure we had to put her name on it "Althea Pereal" she always told us thank you . The times I worked with her to use a lift to help get her out of bed I would tell her to hold on and say up up and away to help her focus. I know she is in a better place in heaven with no more pain and suffering. You will sadly be missed RIP Althea Pereal

I am one of the nurses at Cambridge Developmental Center. I have enjoyed being a small part of Althea’s life for more than 24 years. She was always quick with a smile and would frequently draw you a picture. She eagerly waited for each visit with her mom and dad. I will forever treasure the memory of seeing the pure joy on Althea’s face while listening to the family band on those Sunday afternoons. My condolences to both the immediate family and her extended CADC family.
