Anthony Dopazo

Retired Navy Captain, Anthony Dopazo, from Westminster, California passed away on April 24, 2019. He is remembered as a loving father and grandfather of 4. Anthony was born in White Plains, New York and grew up in Newark, New Jersey. Swimming for three years at Eastside High School was his boyhood claim to fame. As a young man Anthony enlisted in the US Navy. He attended the prestigious Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. At the academy, Anthony ran track for the Navy Cross Country Team. In 1956, Anthony married the love of his life, Irene Barreiro. Together they had two children, Laura and John. Irene quickly became a military wife. Moving up and down the east and west coasts and the Panama Canal Zone, Anthony was assigned to many different ports. At the Pentagon in Washington DC, he was assigned as Construction Analyst. Later at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, he led a 705 person planning department. Anthony was assigned as Chief Engineer on four separate ships. Anthony contributed in the establishment of the Navy’s first true automation of the shipyard planning process. During his 32 years of Military service, he received many awards and decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, China Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the National Service Medal with one bronze star. Upon retiring Anthony became a Certified Financial Planner and managed a division of Waddell and Reed. Anthony never missed an Army / Navy Football game or his favorite Lakers play basketball. Anthony was always quick to volunteer and help others. His love of politics led him to volunteering at the poles regularly. He also volunteered weekly at the Naval Weapons Station Retired Activities Office, Blessed Sacrament Church, and the Rose Theater. Anthony will join his wife and son in heaven. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral service and reception will be held May 29, 2019 at 2:00pm. Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park Cemetery 1625 Gisler Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
