Bruce Weingarten was born on December 17, 1944 in Oak Park, IL. The family (Bruce, his parents & 4 brothers) lived in Seattle and San Jose before settling in Covina, CA. Bruce was a VERY proud graduate of Covina High School (Class of ’62). He attended Cal State L.A. following high school, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and met his wife, Diane. While in College, Bruce enlisted in the Air Force Reserves.
After graduating from Cal State L.A. in 1968, Bruce worked for General Telephone and Getty Oil, before joining Beckman Instruments for a 27 year career in data processing.
Bruce & Diane married in 1966 and had two children – Neil (1969) & Brian (1970). After living in Los Angeles for a few years, they chose Hacienda Heights to raise their family. Bruce was very active in Little League as a coach, umpire & Board member. In 1998, they moved to Irvine and truly embraced their Orange County lifestyle, which included fanatically supporting the Angels.
Brian married Gloria in 1994 and Neil married Teri in 1999. In 1990, Kayleigh, the first of Bruce & Diane’s grandchildren was born. Paige (2000), Rhys (2002) & Gavin (2006) followed. He was an active part of their lives, from supporting their sports endeavors, providing child care and making sure they had seen the latest “kid” movie. Animated movies could be considered his guilty pleasure and he was thankful he had grandchildren to give him the excuse to see them on the big screen.
Bruce had many passions in his life; Family, his Jewish faith, Boxers, Star Trek and golf. He left us too soon on April 9th, 2014 while in Augusta, ticking the Masters off his bucket list. Those who have attended the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club describe the course as heaven on earth. He had marveled at how plush and beautiful the grounds were. We’re sure he is in heaven now, playing the world’s best courses.
