Shelley attended the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse, Wisconsin and used her teaching degree as an elementary school teacher. On November 18, 1978, she married the love of her life and soulmate James R. Kelby in Milwaukee, WI. My grandma was the best person ever her smile would make your day. You didn't know she was in pain cause she would always smile. I miss her so much but now she does not have to suffer anymore.

Shelley was an amazing person. I met her when she was already dealing with ALS and she was so wonderful to be around, even while dealing with that horrible disease. I heard many stories of her family adventures and they were nothing short of amazing. As was she. So giving without expecting anything in return but someone else’s smile and happiness. She was a rarity in this world. Anyone who ever was blessed with a chance to know her was just that...blessed. My heart goes out to her family and friends and out to you, CJ (Captain Jim). I know how much you adored her. It was something anyone who was around you two could see. I’m so very thankful I had one last chance to see her in August.

Jim and family,
Jim and I extend our true sympathy on the death of Shelley . We have such wonderful memories of the Power Squadron parties and the IHYC parties. She was a wonderful lady and she will be missed. She would stay in touch with me through Facebook. May she watch over you as your Heavenly Angel! Sending hugs Jim, we would be there for her services if not for this Covid.
Much love, Jim and Madelyn Flaherty

Sending heartfelt condolences to the family.
Shelley was such a delightful person to be around! I’m so very sad that she had to endure such an awful illness! God bless and keep her.

My favorite memory of Shelley, and it is indelibly etched in my mind, was when our friends, Al and Sherry Vidal. Invited the members of the Illiana Power Squadron, a safe boating organization we all belong to, to her home for a pool party. Shelley opened the gate to the backyard and her eyes lit up! And she exclaimed “my God! You have a resort in your back yard!”, and I laughed so hard because this came from a woman with an indoor pool in her house, and a zoo in her back yard! Still makes me smile to think of it, now! Thank you, Jim, for sharing her with us!♥️♥️♥️♥️
