Percy, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2003. Gerda was a proud military wife and supported her family during their many assignments across the United States and Europe. Gerda enjoyed her flower gardens, baking her famous chocolate chip cookies, and taking long walks in her neighborhood to greet everyone. My name is Jackie, I work at Sam's club where I've gotten to know Gerda quite well over the last 7 years. I was deeply saddened to hear she had passed along with many of my co workers. I will really miss seeing her and sharing great conversations. The love she had for her family was surely known through her thoughtfulness and kindness, even her chocolate chip cookies! Rest in peace Gerda, thanks for the memories!

We first met Gerda when she purchased Girl Scout cookies from our daughter over 11 years ago. It was very cold when we were out trying to sell cookies and met her while she was walking. She bought some immediately. It was such a nice way to welcome our family, who was new to Crystal Lake, to the community. After that first meeting, we always enjoyed chatting with Gerda as she walked by our home on her daily walks. Please accept our condolences. She will be missed.

To the family: I am so sorry for your loss. Gerda was a staple walking through our neighborhood on a daily basis. The world is a little sadder without her smile.

Sweet Gerda my heart broke when I heard the news. I’ve known Gerda for over 30 years....she was such a huge part of my life growing up in the cul de sac. Even after I moved away my parents would always tell me how much Gerda asked about me and how proud of me she was for my service in the navy. Now more than ever I am so thankful she was able to come celebrate my wedding back in June and that my husband was able to meet the sweetest, most caring woman. The positive impact she had on so many people is truly a testament to the tremendous person she was. The cul de sac will not be the same without her but I am blessed to have had her as a part of my life. Rest well sweet Gerda...u will be missed

Gerda became another grandma to my husband and I. His parents live in the cul du sac and he was pivotal in creating the bonfire pit that Gerda loved so much. She was with us through our entire relationship so naturally when we got married she had to come. Our wedding was one day before her birthday which she didn't let us forget, but refused to ever tell is how old she would be. We ended up spending a lot of time around the bonfire pit listening to stories from her past and laughing every time she said she was "mean and ornery" when you asked her how she was doing. She was such a strong woman and we cherished every moment and memory she shared with us. We will miss her so deeply.
