Beverlee Ruman

December 31, 1927March 11, 2018

Beverlee (“Mimi”) peacefully passed away on March 11, 2018, in Dallas, Texas surrounded by family. Born December 31, 1927, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Dorothea Alice Rosenberry Mahan and Russell John Mahan, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Saul I. Ruman, on August 16, 2010, and her brother, Donald Jay Mahan. Survived by her daughters and their husbands, all of Dallas, and their children: Loree Ruman Conrad (H. Wayne); Melissa Ruman Stewart (W. Paul); Elizabeth Ruman Plumlee (Daniel); grandchildren H. Wayne Conrad, Jr. (Florence Wang Conrad); Rachel Christine Conrad; Nathaniel James Conrad (Elizabeth Volynsky Conrad); Brenton Ruman Stewart (Maria Minzenmeyer Stewart); Margaret Mahan Stewart; Daniel Livingston Plumlee, Jr.; Katherine Mahan Plumlee; David Ruman Plumlee and Brian Oketch. Also survived by her sister-in-law Nanci Mahan; first cousins Darlene Lang and Robert Dibblee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Beverlee graduated from Indiana University where she met her husband, Si, whom she married on June 17, 1951. She taught school while Si completed his Law degree at Indiana University. She and Si were lifelong IU supporters.

Beverlee treasured her family and actively supported her children and grandchildren in their many endeavors. Her life was centered around her family and nothing gave her more pleasure than planning to travel with or to visit one of her children or grandchildren. She was an avid reader, a great athlete and she enjoyed attending performances at the symphony, opera and the ballet. She also was an enthusiastic sports fan (particularly for her Hoosiers).

Beverlee always looked forward to her next adventure. She had a passion for travel and a deep interest in learning cultures of the world. Taking her family on trips around the world was her gift to her children and grandchildren. In addition to learning about the world, the trips were a way for her to spend quality time with her family and friends. Everyone jumped at the chance to travel with “Mimi”. Mimi believed that travel helps people develop open minds and big hearts. She cherished her friends around the world.

Rusinga Island in west Kenya was the community that stole her heart from her very first visit. She took great pleasure in being able to help build schools and community facilities. She loved travelling there to visit many dear friends and to spend time with hundreds of children who loved her and called her Mimi.

Beverlee will be laid to rest next to her husband, with her family present in Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, those who would like to honor Mimi’s dream may make donations to the Mimi Education Centre, Rusinga Island Trust.

TO: Melissa, her family and everyone who loved Mrs. Ruman-

My encounters with Beverlee occurred during Brent's many soccer tournaments.
I found her to be classic, gracious, refined, and I so enjoyed making her acquaintance.
Certainly our players appreciated Mrs. Ruman's support as did their parents.

Your family was truly blessed, Melissa, and I know she'll be missed.

My love and condolences,

Karen Oliva

I had the pleasure of knowing Beverlee as I grew up and attended high school with one of her delightful daughters. I remember the home of Beverlee and Si as one of the most welcoming of my youth. I had the pleasure of reconnecting with Beverlee this past summer in Utah after not seeing her for decades - and she had hardly changed!

I have always admired the closeness of the Ruman family and know they will all miss Beverlee immensely, but they should remember that she, along with Si , will continue to watch their every move!

Our thoughts are with you all,
Jay & Barbara Spector

I will always remember your mother coming to the boys soccer matches. She was a great fan and I always enjoyed her company. Please share my thoughts with the rest of your family.
