BYRON L MACKIE

July 9, 1933January 8, 2018

Byron Leon Mackie beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 9, 1933 to Alfred and Eva Mackie. He served his country honorably from 1953-1955. Upon exiting the military he attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated in 1957 with a degree in pharmacy. While in school he married his true love, Shirley Hammothe on April 14, 1956. They settled in Dallas, Texas in 1957 where he worked as a pharmacist for 40 years at the Veterans Affairs Hospital and Parkland Hospital. He is preceded in death by his father Alfred and his mother Eva (James) and two brothers Alfred and Alvarez whom together with him made up the infamous three mosquitoes. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Shirley Mackie, his six children Eric (Olethia), Valerie (Morris Huling), Kenneth (Beverly), David (Renee), Julie (Charles Trice) and Brian, two grandchildren, one great grandchild and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed and loved forever.

Sorry to hear about the loss of my fellow Xavierite and Holy Cross church member. I am sure Byron is resting in heaven with our Lord and savior.Shirley and family Byron is looking down from heaven. He is watching over the Mackie family with a big smile on his face. I will continue to keep the Mackie family in my prayer May Byron rest in paradise,. May the blessing of Jesus, Mary and Joseph be with you all.

Kenneth, my wife and I are so sorry for you and your families loss. These are always difficult times. Around this time last year I was going through this and you helped me tremendously by saying this when I lost my aunt
