Carolyn M. Dennis
September 6, 1916 – October 1, 2011
Carolyn Marie (Kern) (95) of Richardson passed away quietly on October 1, 2011 at home with her family by her side and in the thoughts and prayers of her many friends and relatives. Born September 6, 1916 in Scranton, Arkansas, she was the third oldest of twelve children of Matthias Kern and Agnes Gaisbauer Kern. “Carrie” left the family farm at age 18 to work at Old St. Vincent’s Catholic Hospital in Little Rock, AR under the guidance of the Sisters of Charity. She graduated from Mount St. Mary’s Academy in Little Rock in 1939 where classmates referred to her as “Sunshine.” She completed her X-Ray training while at St. Vincent’s and worked as an X-Ray technician at the Missouri Pacific Hospital during WWII. She married Richard Joseph Dennis on November 26, 1945 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Little Rock. They moved to Richardson Texas on June 6, 1958 where they raised their seven children. Carolyn resumed her X-Ray career “after the kids were grown” and worked almost 15 years before retiring at age 67. She was a member of St Paul the Apostle Catholic Parish in Richardson and has served on the boards of the PTA and the Women’s Guild. She was named “Woman of the Year” in 1999 by the Guild for her unselfish contributions to the St. Paul community. Carolyn was a wonderful wife and mother, a true friend, an avid bridge player, a fabulous cook and baker and a prize winner at the State Fair of Texas for her crocheted afghans. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings Frances Kern Winnermark, Ida Kern Brooks, Agnes Kern Woodring, Louise Kern Hughes, Andrew Kern, Marie “Mickie” Kern Bindner, John Kern and Margaret Kern Ambrose, her Son-in-Law Gregory S Voyik, her Grandson Christopher Morgan Trott, her Grandson-in-Law William Louis Dupré and her only son Patrick Martin Dennis. She is survived by her six daughters: Mary Lorene and husband William L Henrich, Jane Ann and husband David L Noblet, Nancy Louise and husband Charles T Winn, Rose Frances and husband Dan M Trott, Lucy Ardena Voyik and Helen Elizabeth Dennis; Daughter-in-Law Ann Weir Dennis; Ten grandchildren: Nancy Jane Noblet Dupré, Karen Patricia Noblet and husband Spencer Turner, John Martin Henrich and wife Nora Davis, Emily Katherine Henrich and husband Keith Meister, Joseph Patrick Trott and wife Analisa Velasquez, Nathan Edward Dennis and wife Amy Blake, Heather Michelle Deloach, Martin Louis Deloach and wife Jessica, Abigail Rose Winn and Hannah Lucy Winn; Six Great Grandchildren: Brooklyn Paige Trott, Morgan Ashley Turner, Macy Jane Turner, Olivia Grace Dupré, Lucy Davis Henrich and Gabriel Davis Henrich; and Three Sisters: Lorene Kern Dennis, Leona Kern Lowe and Patricia Kern Quanstrom. The family will receive friends during a visitation at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy, Dallas on Thursday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Friday October 7, 2011 at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul School, 720 S. Floyd Road, Richardson, TX 75080 or your favorite charity. A kind-hearted woman who dedicated her life to the service of others, Carolyn gave of herself through hands-on outreach and quality time. Her works benefited her family, parish, friends and community. She was a humble servant of God and example to us all. With a legacy of compassion and giving that she has passed on to the next generations, Carolyn embodied the true spirit of a Catholic Woman.
