Clarissa Hennington

Clarissa was born the last of sixteen children and the only surviving triplet on August 29, 1924 in Bremond, Texas to the union of Leroy Bennett, Sr. and Cordia Bryant Bennett. Her parents and all sibling preceded her in death. Clarissa attended Pleasant Street Elementary School in Bremond, Texas. She had a desire to venture out and moved to the DFW area where she attended Lincoln High School. She was active in the Pep Squad. Later, she relocated to Fort Worth, Texas, and graduated from I. M. Terrell High School in 1944. It was while attending I. M. Terrell that she met the love of her life who became her future husband, Sherman Hennington, Jr. Clarissa and Sherman were married on April 23, 1946. They were married for fifty-two years. He preceded her in death. They were blessed with three children: Bobbie Jean Hennington-Shelton (stepdaughter deceased), Sherman Hennington, III, and Sharon Yvonne Hennington. Clarissa worked diligently and tirelessly for thirty years at Sanger Harris Department Store (Preston Center) in the housekeeping department. She was a faithful member of Good Street Baptist Church over sixty years, She served on the Deaconess Board, sang with the Ollie Lee Scruggs Senior Choir. She also worked with the Boy Scouts and other committees. Clarissa and Sherman had a love for serving the Singing Hills Community by sharing their special culinary skills with neighbors and friends. Clarissa was active until her health failed. She was strong willed, hardworking and always demanded the best for her family. She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Sherman Hennington, III (Yvette); daughter, Sharon Y. Hennington; grandchildren: Keisha Hennington Anderson (Sedric), Tiffany Lane, DeMarcus Lane (Brittany), Charles Shelton, Victor Shelton, Chlois Adedji; great-grandchildren: LaQuantis Hennington, Jailey R. Lane, Kariss Whitefield, Zharia Lane, Noah Martinez, Damian Shelton, Markquette Adedji; nieces: Portia A. Greer, Ann Bennett Nutt, Cyro Foster nephew: Chester Bennett, Jr.; and a host of relatives and friends.
