Dorothy Rhea McBlain, 88, passed away on April 18 in Grapevine, Texas. Dorothy was born March 7, 1931 in McKinney, Texas to Herschell Levi and Mary Jane Farnsworth. Dorothy grew up in Colin County and graduated from McKinney High School in 1949.
Dorothy married Merrell McBlain in 1951 and they had four children.Dorothy had an studious personality with a strong sense of right and wrong. She was devoted to service in her church and loved children. These traits were reflected in her professional and personal life. Dorothy was a bookkeeper for many years, and she served as the financial secretary at Pleasant Wood Baptist Church for 14 years. She supported Merrell as he successfully grew his heating and air conditioning business in the 1960s in Dallas. Together, they also travelled throughout the country helping to build churches with the Texas Baptist Men.
Dorothy also served as the Sunday School teacher and enjoyed weekly games of dominoes with her family and friends.
After raising their family, Dorothy and Merrell moved to Ben Wheeler where Dorothy enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables from her productive garden. These activities require commitment, patience and attention to detail. As a daughter of the Great Depression, Dorothy valued every resource and hated waste.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Merrell; her son George DeWayne; her brothers Thomas Farnsworth, Robert Farnsworth, and Joe Farnsworth; and her sister Alice Gowen.
She is survived by her brother Kenneth Farnsworth, her sister Frances Dykes and her sister Jane Vermillion. She is also survived by her daughters Debra Litton and Patti Beard (husband Gary) and son Ray McBlain (wife Robin). She has six grand children and five great grandchildren.
