Eugenia Birdsall Stuart

November 28, 1926October 1, 2020

Eugenia Presler (Birdsall) Stuart passed away peacefully on October 1, 2020, in Dallas, Texas. She was born November 28, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Dr. Joseph Cooper Birdsall and Anne Elizabeth (Newman) Birdsall. She was one of four children and was married to Spencer Raymond Stuart for 62 years, until his passing in January of 2011. She attended The Baldwin School and graduated from University of Pennsylvania.

She recently funded a scholarship in her name for history students at the Baldwin School. She was a member of the DAR and, as a Junior League member, devoted many hours transcribing books into Braille for the blind. “Genie” loved cooking and entertaining and loved to play bridge, travel, and golf. She was a very avid golfer and, while she and Spence were living in Vermont, she competed and became the 1995 Super Senior State Champion. Genie spent many hours doing needlepoint, and she also knitted hats for chemo patients. She loved snow skiing with her family throughout most of her life. Her favorite pastime was reading books, and in the past year, she began listening to audio books. She enjoyed novels of historical romance and one might find her with a smile on her face as she was reading. The first book she read as a child was Heidi by Johanna Spyri. She also spent hours reading her Bible and always lovingly remembered her family and friends in her prayers daily.

She was married and predeceased by her husband Spencer Raymond Stuart in 2011 and in 2016 one grandson, Cooper Birdsall Stuart, Jr., (Megan Lea Jaeger). She is survived by Spencer Raymond Stuart, Jr. (Karen Ann Snow), Cooper Birdsall Stuart (Gertrude “Trudy” S. Bennett), Eugenia Anne Stuart Davey (John Robert, III). She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Elizabeth Anne Clark Fuller (Thomas Aaron) of Cambridge, Vermont; Ashley Presler Clark (fiancé Albert Hunt “Hunter” Marckwald) of Boynton Beach, Florida; Spencer Raymond Stuart, III (Nicole Flume) of Dallas, Texas; Hillary Maygers Stuart Elliott (Samuel Elijah Elliott) of DeSoto, Texas, and Christine Bennett Stuart, of California. She also leaves her two great-grandchildren, Sadie Elizabeth Fuller and Aaron John Fuller.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army, which was a favorite charity of hers. The family would like to express its love and thanks to Valoria Spurling for her devoted love and care to their mother during the last months of her life.

We love and will miss our mother. Rest peacefully, you lived an amazing life filled with love and faith in God. We love you and are so thankful that we had you with us for so many years, and we will miss you every single day.
